This model C-1 Cassette Book Machine was part of the free Braille and Talking Book service provided by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS). This model became available in 1981 and has variable-speed control, tone and volume controls, fast-rewind and fast-forward, end-of-tape sensors, and a switch that allows the reader to select which of the four tracks should be played. This model is still in circulation through some libraries, but is being replaced by smaller, lighter digital book machines.
